MEET THE BAND

So you’ve seen us, now you want to get to know us? Below are the biographies of the Bath Blues Brothers – a list of some of the most talented musicians/performers in the South West.

Mark Unwin – Jake Blues

Mark put together the Bath Blues Brothers for his Mother-in-Laws wedding back in March 2008, and due to an inability to play any musical instruments has to make do with vocals.

Mark has always been heavily involved with musical theatre in the local area, and has been a member at one time or another of pretty much all the groups in Bath! Many years ago, he auditioned for the Blues Brothers National Tour and got chosen from the South West auditions only to fall at the final selection in a West End theatre (very scary). However, the highlight of his Theatrical Days, was playing the part of Chris in “Miss Saigon” at Stourhead in front of Cameron Mackintosh (even more scary)

Mark has a laptop sales and repair shop in Walcot Street in Bath, and lives with another member of the band, his beautiful wife Anita, and their rabbits Pooky and Mimi.

Steve Bean – Elwood Blues

Steve has been been with the band since November 2008 but has known Jake (Mark) now for coming on 15 years having sung together many times before. He has been involved in local amateur dramatics for quite some time with various companies in and around Bath however these are now on a backburner due to the ever increasing popularity of the band.

Steve has 3 lovely little girls with his ex wife and a very patient girlfriend.
While not rocking it up with the Bath Blues Brothers, Steve can be found at ‘KK Beds’ on Lower Bristol Road which he runs with his dad.

Aimi Kuhlke – Soul Sister

Aimi joined the Bath Blues Brothers at the beginning of 2009.

After training in London and taking various acting and singing jobs around the country and abroad, she has returned to live in Bath and is showing her fellow band members how the pro’s do it!

When she isn’t at work for ‘Send a Cow’, a local charity, Aimi can also be seen singing in Komedia and various venues around Bath.

Anita Unwin – Soul Sister

The lovely Anita is an original member of the band, re-forming it with her husband, Mark, back in March 2008.

Anita is heavily involved with theatre in the local area, running ‘Papillion Theatre Company’, and appearing with many other groups over the years. She can often be found backstage at the Theatre Royal in Bath, madly running around but making sure all the performers on stage look stunning!

We love Anita and we hope that she loves us too, half as much as she loves her rabbits and her husband Mark – not sure if that’s the right order!

Charlie Matters – Trumpet

Biography and photograph to be posted soon!

Sam Davies – Trombone

Sam is an internationally acclaimed award winning (2007) trombonist despite only having played the trombone since he was 13.

If you ask him nicely then he will let you stroke his hair, which he keeps soft, (it is believed) by cooking whilst wearing fleeces.

Some people say that Sam’s shadow is both more intelligible and interesting to talk to should you be stuck in a lift.

He lists his musical influences as Girls Aloud, S-Club 7 and Take That.

Paul Satterly – Saxophone

Paul is just loving playing with the band! He anticipates that the horn section will continue to learn more dance moves over the coming months to supplement their electrifying accompaniments. Paul is inspired by the Memphis Horns.

Outside the band Paul waits patiently for his three teenage children to leave home.

Laissez le bon temps rouler!!

Dominic Liu – Guitar

Dominic joined the band in February 2010, after beating off fierce competition to become our new Rhythm Guitarist.

He has played guitar since 2004 and and is currently completing his A Levels in Bath, studying Music and Music Technology at Prior Park College.

Dominic has played in various small youth bands and has played for the Egg Theatre Summer Schools. Outside of the band, he enjoys writing and producing his own material, with a view to one day becoming a producer.

Robin Slee – Bass Guitar

Robin rejoined the band in 2009 after originally being involved back in 2005. His first instrument was the trombone but after witnessing the superior skills of Mr Sam Davies, grabbed the Bass instead.

Robin has also played in various musicals for Zenith going back to 1996 and KYT, along with playing for Park Lane Big Band.

Robin works as a Building Surveyor just outside Bath and provides no useful assistance to the website or design.

Mark Sellick – Piano/Keyboards

Mark is an original member of the Bath Blues Brothers and has mainly played keyboards/piano throughout. He has covered on Bass and Trombone in the early days and has been known to sing along on backing vocals.

Mark is heavily involved with musical theatre in the local area and has been a member of a number of groups. He ‘officially’ made his West End debut singing extracts from Les Miserables with Keynsham Youth Theatre in 2007.

Mark ‘does’ design, and has applied his ‘artistic’ eye to the band by designing the logo and the website.

Alex Wood – Drums

Alex joined the band back in October 2008. He has a range of musical expertise having grown up studying drums, percussion, piano, trumpet, saxophone and bass guitar to name a few.

Alex has recently changed from self appointed leader of the horn section to our sticks man. He sources and organises most of the arrangements and (occasionally) keeps the horn section in order.

Outside the band Alex runs a local web design and marketing company and spends his days drinking Red Bull and getting annoyed by CSS.
